These two official documentaries look as though they were produced some time in the seventies.
Disc one explores the architecture in great depth while disc two focusses on the many treasures held in the Palace. At an hour each, these go into far more detail than any other documentary that I have seen, and I would recommend them for anybody planning to visit Beijing. Just one caveat, the movies are dual langauge. If you set mono left, you get English and mono right is mandarin.
